A lesson with Li Edelkoort

March 14, 2012

Last Monday I had the pleasure to attend a lesson held by Li Edelkoort, one of the world’s most renowned trend forecasters. Li is a nice lady able to explain, easily and quickly, which trends we will be following in the next two years.

I have to admit that at the end of the lesson I felt both relieved – knowing your lifestyle future is not so bad – and bothered, because I’m not sure that is fair someone has the power to tell me how to dress, what to eat, and what is the mood I will have.

By the way I’m pretty sure that Li is not only a visionary, but she’s something like a ‘mood scientist’, able to analyze the past and the present and to well define the lifestyle future.

Spleen is the keyword: able to remind you Baudelaire and the French poets, it’s seen as the source of today creativity. Young designers live in a strange period, made of crisis and hope. Culture will surely reflect these feelings and will be able to start a new romantic era, welcoming a “dark melancholic fashion that will change what we know about design today; with folkloric, germanic, poetic, gothic and mystic influences”. Wow!!!
