What is the theme of Feel the Yarn 2013 contest and how it was born?
The theme of the context is “Pull-Lovers”. A theme that transfers into knits feelings of pleasure, wellbeing and love.
Which schools are taking part to the contest?
Eight institutes participate in the project, among the most renowned internationally for fashion and design: Bunka (Tokyo) – Bift (Pechino) – Hong Kong Polytechnic (Hong Kong) – Niederrhein Hochschule Moenchengladbach – Royal College (Londra) – Kingston University (Londra) – Naba (Milano) – Accademia d’Arte di Costume (Roma).
What are the steps of the collaboration between the students and the companies?
The eighteen spinners participating in Feel the Yarn, at its fourth edition, have supplied the young designers with necessary yarns for the development of the garments. Immediately after Pitti Filati they will also host the student, they have sponsored, to complete their educational program with a full immersion in their products. After viewing the theme of the context spinners sent to the selected students their sample and colour cards. Also students have developed their prototypes interpreting the context theme, selecting appropriate yarns and colours. Spinners supplied requested yarns. Today in the dedicated area Feel the Yarn at Pitti Filati the 19 students’ work is on display, combined with 18 italian spinners. The garments will be evaluated and voted by all the Pitti Filati visitors as well as by a highly selected technical jury.

Qual è il tema del concorso Feel the Yarn di quest’anno e come è nata l’idea?
Il tema del concorso è “PULL –LOVERS” un tema che trasferisce nella maglia i sentimenti del giocare, del benessere e dell’amore.
Quali scuole partecipano al concorso?
Al concorso partecipano otto istituti internazionali, tra i più rinomati per la loro attività nell’ambito moda e design da me coordinati: Bunka (Tokyo) – Bift (Pechino) – Hong Kong Polytechnic (Hong Kong) – Niederrhein Hochschule Moenchengladbach – Royal College (Londra) – Kingston University (Londra) – Naba (Milano) – Accademia d’Arte di Costume (Roma).
Quali sono stati gli step che hanno caratterizzato la collaborazione tra i partecipanti al concorso e le aziende?
Le 18 filature che hanno aderito a questo progetto, giunto alla sua 4° edizione, hanno messo a disposizione dei giovani creativi i filati necessari alla realizzazione dei capi per il concorso. Inoltre ospiteranno in azienda lo studente a loro associato immediatamente dopo Pitti Filati per completare il percorso di formazione tramite una full immersion nei loro prodotti. Dopo aver preso visione del tema del concorso, le filature hanno inviato campioni e cartelle colori dei loro filati agli studenti abbinati a loro per sorteggio. Gli studenti hanno progettato i prototipi seguendo il tema del concorso e scegliendo i filati e i colori più indicati. Le filature hanno quindi inviato i materiali richiesti. Oggi a Pitti Filati, nell’area dedicata a Feel the Yarn, sono in mostra i lavori dei 12 studenti abbinati a 18 filature italiane. I capi saranno visionati e votati dai visitatori di Pitti Filati e da una giuria ‘tecnica’ altamente selezionata.
