Since 2010, Feel the Yarn is the International contest for knitwear students organized by Consorzio Promozione Filati and Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery.
Every year about 25 students from all over the world, representing the most prestigious fashion schools, challenge each other with technique and creativity.
Different stories and nationalities but a single purpose: to work and emerge in the knitwear sector.
Feel the Yarn begins every year with a self-selection made by the schools among the best students of the last year; later the organizers, Consorzio Promozione Filati (CPF) and Pitti Immagine, further select the finalists, based on their motivations, previous works, sketches and concepts that interpret the theme of the year.
The students are then randomly matched with CPF members to use their yarns for free and create two complete knitted outfits (man and woman) that will be put on show at Pitti Filati at the end of June.
Finally, visitors at Pitti Filati and a technical jury, made up of journalists, designers and experts in the field, will vote for the best outfit that will be awarded on the last day of the fair.
The goal is still the same: to select and promote young design talents in knitwear and fashion by enhancing their ability to develop original creations, exalting the potential of the most innovative Italian yarns.
In the last three editions more and more knitwear brands and retailers have embraced this aim and have created through scholarships and internships, remarkable chances for the participating students to ease the breakthrough into the business of knitwear fashion.
